UN Adopts the Equal Earth Projection World Map

I still remember how I felt sometime in ~2010 when I learnt that the map I had entrenched in my brain wasn’t accurate. An episode from The West Wing taught me that (short clip). Since then, I’ve been looking at all world maps and thinking: ‘Nope, that’s the wrong size’.

I’ve had a world map on my wall since 2018, and it reminds me of how wrong the proportions of most countries’ projections are. I’ve been looking for a larger replacement for the last 5 months and hoping that a non-Mercator one shows up in my searches with no luck so far.

I’m glad that the United Nations has adopted the Equal Earth Projection. Maybe someone will create a version of this, that I can frame on a wall now :).
